Planning The Wedding
Here’s a quick run down on the process of planning a wedding in the Big Apple.
-
Before you start planning, have a clear idea of how much you're willing to spend and who you need to invite. This will help you narrow down your options and make decisions more easily throughout the process.
-
Once you have a budget and guest list, you should determine potential dates and start looking at venues. Popular venues will book up quickly, so start your search and make a reservation as early as possible.
-
Once you’re set on a date and venue, you can start looking for vendors. Depending on your needs, book your officiant, planner, caterer, florist, photographer, and more. Do your research, read reviews and make sure they fit your style and budget.
-
Now that you have the big pieces in place, it's time to plan all the details of your wedding. This includes things like the menu, decor, music, and more.
-
With all the details in place, it's time to send out your invitations. Be sure to include any important information like the date, time, location, and any special instructions.
-
The big day is finally here! Remember to take a moment to enjoy the experience and savor the memories.
Planning a wedding in NYC can be a bit overwhelming, but with a bit of research and organization, you'll be able to pull off the wedding of your dreams.
My recommended wedding venues in NYC
Let me give you the inside scoop on some of my favorite wedding venues where I've officiated.
The Central Park Boathouse is a classic choice for a fairytale-like outdoor wedding ceremony. You get views of the city peaking over the park trees and views of the lake. Plus, who doesn't love a good stroll through Central Park after the ceremony?
For something a little more modern, you might like The High Line Hotel. The unique “industrial chic” vibes and rooftop views are to die for.
Another favorite of mine is The Liberty Warehouse. This industrial-chic venue in Brooklyn has stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. It's perfect for couples who want an offbeat location that still comes with the Instagram-ready views.
Want to go BIG? The Plaza Hotel is as big as it gets in New York! You’ll absolutely need a planner for this venue.
And last but not least, The Glasshouses. This location will fit well with couples looking for a secular wedding ceremony that’s indoors but still has a great view. The Glasshouses is made up of two greenhouse-style event spaces, with views of the Hudson River, and the Manhattan skyline.
Tips for booking a wedding venue in NYC
Book early: Popular venues in NYC can and WILL book up quickly, so you need to start your search and make a reservation as early as possible. This will give you the best chance of securing your preferred date and location.
Be flexible: If your dream venue is already booked on your ideal date, consider being flexible before writing them off completely. Many venues offer off-peak rates for weddings that take place on less popular days of the week or during the off-season.
Consider your guest list: Before you book the venue, think about how many guests you'll invite and make sure the venue can accommodate that number. Also, consider the accessibility of the location for your guests, especially since some of them will be coming from out of town.
Be prepared to negotiate: Many venues in NYC are open to negotiation, especially when it comes to things like catering, bar service, and rental fees. Be prepared to negotiate and don't be afraid to ask for a better deal.
Be aware of hidden costs: Be sure to ask about any additional costs that may not be included in the initial quote such as taxes, service charges, and gratuities.

Weather considerations
You absolutely must consider the weather before you start planning to wed in NYC.
The city experiences all four seasons, and each season brings its own unique weather patterns and potential challenges.
Spring
Spring (March-May) is arguable the most beautiful time to get married in NYC thanks to the mild temperatures and blooming flowers. But it can also bring some rain and increased allergies. If you're planning on an outdoor ceremony, make sure you have a backup plan in case of rain and consider your loved ones with sinuses.
But don't let that discourage you, Spring can be perfect weather to have an indoor wedding with an outdoor photo shoot.
Summer
Summer (June-August) is the most popular time to get married in the city, but it can also be quite hot and humid, with occasional thunderstorms. If you're planning a summer wedding, make sure your venue has air conditioning, and provide guests with parasols or fans to keep cool. And, don't forget to hydrate!
Fall
Fall (September-November) is also a popular choice, thanks to the changing leaves and cooler temperatures. But, it can also be quite unpredictable, with the potential for sudden downpours or even snow. Make sure to have a backup plan for inclement weather, and consider renting heaters for outdoor spaces.
Winter
Winter (December-February) can be a bit tricky, with the potential for snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. But, it can also be incredibly beautiful, with the city all decked out in holiday lights and blanketed in white.
If you're planning a winter wedding, make sure your venue has a heated space for guests and consider providing warm blankets or shawls for guests.
No matter what time of year you choose to get married, the most important thing is that you and your partner are happy and surrounded by the people you love.
